The Bangladeshi authorities have arrested the fundamentalist who recently accused star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan of blasphemy and threatened to kill him. Mohsin Talukder, a resident of Shahpur Talukder Para in Sylhet, started a Facebook Live at 12.06 p.m. on Sunday and publicly threatened to murder Shakib Al Hasan.

He claimed that Shakib’s behaviour had ‘hurt Muslims’ as he went about delivering his hate speech. The man was offended with the Bangladesh ace for inaugurating a Kali Puja pandal in Kolkata. Shakib Al Hasan went to Kolkata via the Petrapole border last Thursday to inaugurate a Kali Puja in the Beleghata area.

“Shakib Al Hasan came to the country a few days ago. I was happy when he went to perform Hajj a while ago,” Mohsin had said,

“But he went to India to inaugurate a puja program after returning to Bangladesh. It has hurt the hearts of the Muslims. I will hack him to death if I see him,” he added.

Later, he had issued an apology for his behaviour. However, it has not saved him from the legal authorities. Mohsin was arrested on Tuesday from Ronoshi area of Purbapagla union under South Sunamganj, according to Dhaka Tribune.

His brother Masum Talukdar defended him for his comments, claiming that Mohsin is mentally disturbed. He also insisted that the family is ashamed of his brother’s actions.

“Mohsin has been behaving erratically recently. He seems mentally unwell from the way he speaks.

“The family is ashamed of his actions. On behalf of our family, we apologize to Shakib, the pride of Bangladesh,” said Masum.

Shakib Al Hasan is currently gearing up to make his much-anticipated return to international cricket. Last year, he was banned by the ICC from all cricket for two years, with one year of that sentence suspended, for breaching the ICC anti-corruption code. The ban ended on October 29, 2020.
