The Indian cricket board announced squads for the limited-overs and Test series squads for tour Down Under on Monday. There were many highlights in the squad as the Sunil Joshi-led selection panel made their intentions quite clear. Among them the non-selection of spinner Axar Patel and top-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav made the highlights.

Axar Patel, currently plying his trade for Delhi Capitals in IPL, has made his presence felt on the weary wicket in UAE with the ball and bat. Top-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav’s exclusion also came as a major shock to many in the cricketing folklore as he has been quite consistent in IPL and Ranji trophy.

You both were born at the wrong era: Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary, one of the finest batman Bengal ever had, said that it was hard luck for Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav not to be picked up in the side. He also added that few years down the line people might say that the duo were born in wrong era but he believes they could have easily made it to the side.

“Hard luck @akshar2026 and @surya_14kumar on not making it to the indian team dis time. Some years down d line, few cosy group of people will say that u both were born/played at d wrong Era but i would say u cud have easily played along side ur competitors.”

Suryakumar Yadav has consistently done well on the international circuit and has been a game changer in the IPL. He has notched up the scores of 40, 0, 10, 53, 79, 27, 10, 0, 47 in the lucrative tournament this year. There has also been some match-winning performances included it in. However, it was not enough for him to find a spot in the T20I squad.

Earlier when Mumbai Indians played against Kolkata Knight Riders, Yadav played a match-winning knock. KKR toiled hard but failed to get among wickets as Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma took them to the cleaners. Stepping in to bat at No.3, Yadav hit quick-fire 47 runs off 28 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and one hit over the fence to help his side reach a total of 195/5.
