Renowned cricket analyst and commentator, Michael Holding, stated that he would rather visit a dentist and get his tooth pulled out than considering a coaching job.

Holding was a part of the famous pace quartet of West Indies featuring Andy Roberts, Joel Garner, and Malcolm Marshall, during their invincible phase.

Post his retirement; Holding enjoys a successful career as a broadcaster in sought after networks such as Sky Sports and SuperSports.

Through his wits, distinct accent and vast knowledge of the modern game, Holding has developed quite a following among masses. The ‘whispering death’ is open to providing few pointers but is not open to coaching any team.

No, I hate coaching. I am happy to help people and give them some pointers. But if you offered me a job as a coach and tell me that I am going to make a living coaching, I would rather go to a dentist and have a tooth pulled! That should tell you how I feel about coaching,” stated Michael Holding when asked if he is open to taking up coaching role anywhere.

When asked who amongst the current crop of bowlers he enjoys watching, Holding named Dale Steyn, who has been injury prone lately.

The one that I really enjoyed watching, and one that I would get up in the morning and rush to the ground to watch, just got injured again in the last series — Dale Steyn. I have enjoyed watching him more than anyone else,” Holding named, while talking to SportStar.

You don’t see a lot of quick bowlers around the world: Holding

“He has all the tricks, the control and the pace. Sure he’s getting a bit older now and is not as quick as he used to be but he can move the ball around, he has the aggression, he has the temperament, he has everything,” added the Jamaican.

Further, the 64-year old West Indian named Kagiso Rabada, Vernon Philander and Mitchell Starc as bowlers inferior to Dale Steyn.

There are a few guys below his standard, as far as I am concerned, who are still good fast bowlers. There’s Kagiso Rabada, I think he has everything needed to develop into something special,” Holding claimed.

That said, Holding ended by quoting that there aren’t many exciting fast bowlers around the world beyond the likes of Starcs and Rabadas.

Vernon Philander is a good bowler, but we are talking about out and out fast bowlers so he doesn’t get into the mix. Mitchell Starc has pace, he is also a very good bowler. I don’t see a lot of outstanding fast bowlers beyond this group. You don’t see a lot of quick bowlers around the world,” concluded Michael Holding.
