Michael Hussey, former Australia, and Chennai Super Kings batsman had heaped high praise on his former captain MS Dhoni, adding that he wants to see the former Indian captain play for the next ten years.

Michael Hussey added that he loves Dhoni as captain and the manner in which he backs his players while also paying tribute to his tactical nouse. The current Chennai Super Kings batting coach said he loved batting with MS Dhoni in tight run-chases.

“He’s been an incredible person and player for CSK and India for so long. We hope he keeps playing for another 10 years but I am not sure we are going to be able to see that. Hopefully, he can play for as long as he can,” Michael Hussey said during an online interaction for Sony Ten Pit Stop.

“I love MS as the captain. I love how calm he is and how much he backs his players and shows so much faith in his players. Obviously he is very astute from a tactical point of view. Certain moves he makes… you wonder where he is going with it but it’s amazing how often it sort of comes true and works out in his favour,” he added.

“Also batting with him in the middle in tight run-chases, it’s amazing to see how calm he is and how calculated he is. Always wanting to be there in the middle till the last over of the game.” Hussey reminisced.

Michael Hussey also went on to reveal that he fell in love with the IPL, the moment he entered the Chennai Super Kings dressing room for the first time in 2008.

He also paid tribute to the captain-coach partnership of MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming, adding the duo are very good thinkers of the game and are the cornerstone behind CSK’s success.

“I fell in love with the IPL from the very moment I walked into the CSK dressing room in 2008. It was such a wonderful environment. Guys that just loved cricket from all over the world. That’s what I loved the most,” Michael Hussey said

“Bringing guys from all over the world, watching how they prepare for the game, watching how they were talking to them and learning from them. Talking to Indian players about how to play spin in India. It was just such a great environment and I just fell in love straightaway,” he added.

“Those 2 (Hussey and Dhoni) together, they complement each other so well. They share a very good relationship, a mutual respect there. They both are very good thinkers of the game, very shrewd and very smart. They both work very well together,” Michael Hussey said.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni hasn’t played a competitive game since the 2019 World Cup semi-final. The former captain was all set to make his return with the 13th edition of the IPL but for the novel pandemic that forced the tournament to get postponed for an indefinite period of time.
