Michael Vaughan Heaps Praise On Steve Smith, Calls Him The Best Test Batsman He Has Seen

Steve Smith has made an emphatic return to Test cricket after staying one year in exile due to his role in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa last year. Scoring two centuries on his comeback Test match, Smth has earned praise from all parts of the globe. Even former England skipper Michael Vaughan, who has been critical of Australian players throughout his life, hailed Smith calling him the best Test batsman he has ever witnessed.

Smith is the best Test batsman

The former Australian skipper Steve Smith backed it with another century in the second innings to help Australia gain a significant lead of 397 runs in the second innings. England had severely missed the service of James Anderson as the former Australia skipper punished the likes of Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes. He looked indomitable on day four controlling the innings at his will. Smith became only the fifth Australian batsmen to score two centuries in two innings of a Test match. He now averages over 125 in his last ten Ashes innings which shows the greatness of this player in the Test format.

Previously, Steve Smith revived Australia from humiliation putting in 144 runs in his first Test innings since the Cape Town Test in 2018. With the Aussies facing problems early in the Test match, Smith stitched two crucial partnership with the tailenders to help his side post 284 runs in the first innings. He battled against the hostile reception from the Edgbaston to play two great knocks to showcase his immense talent.

Soon after his second century of the match, former English cricketer Michael Vaughan bowed down to Steve Smith. The Englishmen called Smith as the best Test batsmen he has ever witnessed throughout his life. Meanwhile, Smith is currently in the fourth in the ICC Test Rankings among batsmen after Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, and Cheteshwar Pujara.
