Michael Vaughan, former England captain, has hailed all-rounder Ben Stokes as the country’s best player after the Durham superstar racked up his 10th Test hundred in the ongoing 2nd Test against the West Indies at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Ben Stokes came into bat with England reeling at 3-81 and along with a patient and gritty Dom Sibley went on to amass a record 260 runs for the fourth wicket- the highest 4th wicket stand at Old Trafford.
It was a brilliant innings from Ben Stokes one that displayed another facet of his game- patience. The all-rounder accumulated 176 runs off 356 balls- his longest innings in terms of ball faced.

Ben Stokes joined an elite club during his patient 176
Stokes’ 176 is also his 2nd 150+ score in Test match cricket and during the innings, he joined an elite club which consists of a select group of cricketers who have achieved the treble of 4000 runs + 10 centuries and 150 wickets.
Stokes joined the likes of former Windies legend Sir Garry Sobers [8032+26+235 (93)], English legend Sir Ian Botham[ 5200+14+383 (102)] and South African great Jacques Kallis

Stokes and Dom Sibley’s marathon stand lasted over 500 balls and it ensured that England asserts themselves into a position of ascendency, declaring their innings at 9-469.
