Following the injury of Lockie Ferguson in the ongoing Perth Test match between Australia and New Zealand, the former England cricketer Michael Vaughan came up with a unique suggestion. The right-handed fast bowler Lockie Ferguson won’t bowl again in the ongoing first Test against Australia due to strain in the right calf, which he suffered on Day 1 of the match.
Ferguson, who got his maiden Test cap on Thursday, injured himself during the second session and was quickly sent for an MRI scan to determine the extent of the problem. The scan has confirmed a right calf muscle-tendon strain. It means that the visitors are one player short in the ongoing Test match and will play with ten players in the remainder of the game.
Test Cricket Needs An Injury Replacement Rule – Michael Vaughan
Highlighting the same, the former skipper of the England Cricket Team Michael Vaughan stated that the team should allow a like-to-like replacement in such cases, after getting a detailed report from the doctors. He believes that the Test Cricket is in requirement of such rule to ensure the balance between both the teams.
His tweet read ”I reckon Test cricket needs an injury replacement rule … Independent doctor on site… He accesses the player, i.e. like Ferguson now In Perth .. if he deems the injury to be real .. a replacement can come in. @FoxCricket... What do you all reckon ??”

The International Cricket Council had already come up with such rule, but it is only restricted to the batsman, who suffer a concussion. We already witnessed players like Marnus Labuschagne and Mehidy Hasan replacing Steve Smith and Liton Das during Ashes Trophy 2019 and Bangladesh tour of India 2019 respectively after suffering a concussion.

Well, it is an interesting concept from Michael Vaughan. It would be interesting to see whether the supreme board will have a look into the suggestion made by the former England skipper. On Twitter, it got a mixed reaction, as the few fans felt that the players would exploit the rule as per the requirement of the team.
