Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has advised his fans not to get their hopes up regarding the fate of ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to be held later this year in Australia.

While the Women’s edition was successfully held earlier this month, the men’s edition has come under the scanner owing to the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.

Commenting on the situation, Vaughan, a former legend of the sport said that these are unprecedented times, and the implications of Coronavirus, could influence the T20 World Cup as well. All cricket activities around the world have been called off to curb the spread of the disease.

All bilateral series and domestic T20 leagues have been suspended including the Indian Premier League (IPL) which was slated to begin from March 29 originally.

The IPL has been pushed back to April 15, although it remains to be seen if it can be held in due time.

You just don’t know: Michael Vaughan on the fate of T20 World Cup

Major sporting events such as the Olympics and UEFA Euros 2020 have been postponed, and now, cricket fans are starting to worry about the T20 World Cup, which was earlier scheduled to kick-off in October.

Vaughan though said nothing can be said about the fate of the global spectacle right now.

“The most important thing when we start talking about sport is that it’s really secondary to what’s happening to many people around the world,” Vaughan told Fox League Live on Thursday.

“You would hope it’s going to be okay by then but you just don’t know,” said the 45-year-old. “These are unprecedented times. “The advice that we’re getting here is changing daily. Only two weeks ago we were all thinking it was just a real bad case of the flu, then a few days later reality started to sink in for many of us that it was a lot worse than that.”
