He called him a freak, he called him the beast, and now he calls him the greatest ODI player of all time.

India’s run-machine Virat Kohli has had admirers all over the world but none greater than former England captain Michael Vaughan as far as the territories in the UK is concerned, who now has hailed Kohli as the greatest ODI player of all time.

The South African tour for the Indian all-format captain took a massive U-turn after his failures during the first Test match in Cape Town back in January. Kohli nicked one off Morne Morkel bowled at the fifth stump line to bring back horrors of England in 2014 where he struggled against the nagging lines of Anderson.

To make matters worse, he let Philander play with his head and was plumb in front of the wicket, as India stared at a certain defeat.  Many questioned his quality outside Asiatic conditions again, but King Kohli paid heed to none. He smashed a glorious 153 in Centurion to retaliate his critics.

He further played crucial knocks at testing conditions of Jo’burg to take India to victory and salvage pride after losing the first two matches and avoiding a possible whitewash. Virat continued his good work in the series opener in Durban with a marvellous inning of 112 to take India towards victory and make a statement which put the hosts in the backfoot early in the series, possibly never to come back.

It all came back to where it started for Virat Kohli on this Indian tour, as he smacked an unbeaten knock of 160 in Cape Town which took India to a match-winning total of 303, which has never been chased on the ground in history.

“Yet another ? for @imVkohli … the hunger & consistency is remarkable … the Greatest ever ODI player ??? #SAvIND,” tweeted Michael Vaughan looking at his superhuman effort.
