Mickey Arthur Has Ruined Pakistan Cricket: Abdul Qadir

Former Pakistan leg-spinner Abdul Qadir has launched a stinging attach at current Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur. Arthur’s contract, which was extended by two years after the Champions Trophy triumph in 2017, expired at the end of the World Cup. Arthur took charge of Pakistan in 2016 and has had a very mixed results. The former Australia and South Africa coach guided Pakistan to the historic Champions Trophy title in 2017.

But barring that, he does not have much to celebrate during his stint with Pakistan. In the recently-concluded World Cup, Pakistan crashed out at the group stage. The Men in Green did put up some good performances in the end but it was just not enough for them to enter the last four. Pakistan finished on 11 points, the same as New Zealand but missed out net run-rate. Speculations are rife that Pakistan would not extend Arthur’s contract.

Abdul Qadir has now come down hard on Arthur, saying that the coach ‘has ruined Pakistan cricket’. The legendary leg-spinner’s also lashed out at Arthur for dropping or overlooking players like Umar Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad and former captain Salman Butt. The trio has been doing well in domestic circuit but Arthur did not show much faith in them.

“Mickey Arthur has ruined Pakistan cricket,” Adbul Qadir told cricketpakistan.com.pk. “He dropped the likes of Ahmed Shehzad, Sami Aslam, Salman Butt, Umar Akmal, Sohail Khan and many others. These were the players [that] had the experience and performances under their belt to carry Pakistan forward.

“Even if there were disciplinary issues with these players, it’s the PCB’s responsibility to form a code of conduct and warn these players in order to avoid such incidents from happening in the future,” he added.
