Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have shortlisted Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Mike Hussey along with a few other names to take up the job of a head coach for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Andy Flower, Darren Lehmann and George Bailey are three other shortlisted candidates, a report in Mumbai Mirror suggest.

The former Australia cricketer, Mike Hussey has a long association with the Indian Premier League. He played for Chennai Super Kings and then worked as the batting coach under head coach Stephen Fleming. Should Kings XI Punjab rope him, the former cricketer will succeed Mike Hesson.

However, it is unlikely that  Hussey will leave CSK and join the Punjab franchise. The Chennai Super Kings have a tendency to retain their players and support staffs like Stephen Fleming, who has been a part of the set-up since 2008.

On the other hand, Andy Flower is also one of the high-profile coaches around. He has been at the helm of England Cricket Team for five before stepping down after a dismal run in Ashes 2012-14. Former Australia head coach Darren Lehmann has been associated with the Kings XI Punjab earlier as a player. Lehmann who stepped down from the Australia head coach role in the aftermath of the 2018 ball-tampering scandal, has earlier coached Deccan Chargers and will be keen to resume coaching again.

Last but not least, George Bailey has also found himself in the shortlisted list. Bailey has earlier played for the franchise and has shown interest in taking up the role. Currently, he is playing in Marsh Cup for Tasmania, and should Kings XI Punjab pick him, the veteran batsman might take a call on his career.

Meanwhile, the Priety Zinta owned franchise is one of the few teams who are yet to win the IPL trophy. They will hope to give all their might and bring the illustrious cup home in 2020.
