Former Pakistan and Islamabad United skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has decided to bring down curtains on his Pakistan Super League (PSL) career.

Misbah-ul-Haq has decided to end his PSL career after playing three seasons of the league. The veteran batsman was part of Islamabad United for all three seasons and also led the side during their maiden trophy triumph.

Islamabad United, on Wednesday, confirmed the news by releasing an official statement. The franchise also confirmed they are trying to rope in their former skipper in an administrative role.

“Islamabad United has always greatly valued Misbah as a player, leader and a superb team player. As he transitions into his non-playing phase, we believe he can add a lot of value to Islamabad United as well as to Pakistan,” the statement read. “The franchise continues to discuss with him avenues which could provide him a platform to pursue his next phase. These discussions continue and deserve the confidentiality which a senior player like him deserves.”

Misbah had hung up his boot in international cricket last year. However, he continued to ply his trade in T20s and domestic cricket. But he decided to end his playing career after being named in PCB’s new cricket committee

Misbah will always go down as one of the most inspirational captains in the history of the game. He took the captaincy of the team when Pakistan cricket was going through one of its darkest phases.  The team could not play cricket at home due to security concern and the fixing -scandal during the 2010 tour of England only plummeted Pakistan cricket to further darkness. They were ranked sixth in the world and were looking like moving in only downward direction.

Islamabad United confirmed they are trying to rope in Misbah-ul-Haq in an administrative role for the PSL.

But Misbah led the team to a remarkable turnaround and even led them to the number one in the longest format of the game. Under his captaincy, Pakistan registered series victories against the likes of Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka in UAE. One of  his finest moments came in 2016 when Pakistan drew 2-2 in England and reached the pinnacle of Test cricket for the first time since the ranking was introduced.

Meanwhile, Islamabad United have also appointed Saeed Ajmal as the assistant coach after Tauseef Ahmed resigned from that position.
