Former Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson has joined the chorus of his compatriots, saying that next year’s bumper Test series against India should start at the Gabba. The venue is nothing less than a fortress for the hosts as they haven’t lost at the Gabba since 1988.It is the second longest undefeated stretch by a team at a ground in Test history.

Traditionally, India do not enjoy playing on bouncy wickets and their record at the Gabba pretty much proves it. India have never won at the Gabba in five attempts – including a four-wicket defeat in 2014. When the Virat Kohli-led side visited Australia last year and created history by winning the series, they did not play at the Gabba.

The series had instead started in Adelaide with India winning it. The last time an Australia-India series started at the Gabba was in 2003-04. Australia has already stated its intention for next year’s series opener to be played in Brisbane.

“(This) is where we like to start our summer, and it has been for a long, long time except for last summer,” Australia captain Tim Paine said after his team’s victory over Pakistan at the Gabba last week.

Paine, who is known for his brilliant wit, also said the venue for the series-opener would be dependent on Virat Kohli – who not only is India’s talisman but arguably the most influential figure in cricket due to his unparalleled stardom.

“We’ll have to run that by Virat,” Paine said. “We’ll get an answer from him at some stage I’m sure. See if we can get his permission to play here.”

Mitchell Johnson trolls Indian fan:

Mitchell Johnson has also thrown his support behind the next year’s series starting at Brisbane. The legendary pacer took to Instagram to state the same, saying that the summer should start only at the Gabba. And while fans were giving their opinions on the same, one India fan was left red-faced because of the words he used in his comments.

It all started when Mitchell Johnson wrote:

“Yes the first Test match of the Australian summer can only be at the Gabba!”

This is when the fan responded to his comment and wanted to say that irrespective of the venue, Indi would blow away Australia. However, instead of away, he used off and the result was absolutely hilarious as he wrote:

“Does it really make a difference where the first match is gonna happen? Coz anyway India will blow u guys off ??”

Mitchell Johnson was quick to notice that reply and to make things even more hilarious, he also replied to it, writing:

“@aditya_19ven I hope they don’t blow us off, that would be awkward ?”
