New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan was over the moon and lauded his skipper. But well, there is a catch! The pacer took to Twitter and lauded the efforts of his Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma. Incidentally, in the same game, New Zealand skipper played a good hand of 48-ball 95 and nearly crossed the finishing line.

Mitchell McClenaghan was at his best on Twitter

McClenaghan took to Twitter and wrote, ‘Captain oh Captain’. A fan asked the seamer about which captain is he talking about since he has played under both Williamson and Rohit. The Blackcaps international responded to the query saying that he was praising the skipper of the Mumbai Indians.

Now that may not please Williamson. But a bigger setback was the shocking defeat. The hosts had the game in hands with 2 runs needing from 4 balls. Pacer Mohammed Shami, who was taken for a six in the very first delivery of the 20th over, came back to pick the wickets of Williamson and then Ross Taylor to take the game to the Super Over.

The Kiwi unit put on a solid score of 17 and India was under the pump. But Rohit belted two consecutive sixes to turn the table in India’s favor. Williamson ruined the missed opportunities and said that Super Overs haven’t been the best for them. The New Zealand side never finished on the winning side in Super Overs apart from just one occasion, which was against Australia.

“Super Overs haven’t been too good for us, so we probably need to try and do better in regular time. It was a much better performance all round. We fought back well with the ball after their start. Both sides maximised the slightly shorter side towards the scoreboard. Pretty disappointing, losing after an effort like that, but it’s a game of small margins.” Williamson said, reflecting on the loss.
