Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Starc was absolutely furious after being denied the chance to score his maiden century in first-class cricket during the ongoing Sheffield Shield clash between New South Wales and Tasmania on Tuesday.

As many as three New South Wales including pacer Sean Abbott scored centuries and Mitchell Starc was looking set to become the fourth player to reach the triple-digit mark. However, New South Wales captain Peter Nevill decided otherwise. He declared the innings as soon as Abbott scored his century, leaving Mitchell Starc stranded on 86.

The left-arm pacer was furious with the call and didn’t shy away from expressing his feelings after walking off the field. The Australia star, whose highest first-class score is 99 which came against India in 2013, hurled his bat to the ground in anger and did the same with his gloves inside the changing area.

A handy lower-order batsman, Mitchell Starc has so far played 103 red-ball games for Australia and New South Wales but is yet to score a century. Well, no surprises then that he was absolutely angry to miss out on one on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Peter Nevill’s decision to declare the innings towards the end of day three was justified by pacer Trent Copeland. With 13 overs remaining, Copeland dismissed Charlie Wakim and Jordan Silk cheaply to reduce Tasmania to 21 for 2. Tasmania ended the day on 26 for 2, still training by 321 runs.

Earlier in the day, New South Wales declared their innings on 522 for 6. Centuries from Nick Larkin, Moises Henriques and Sean Abbott helped them recover from a disastrous first innings where they were all out for just 64. In reply, Tasmania had scored 239.
