The captain of the Indian National Women’s Cricket Team in the ODIs, Mithali Raj, has stated that due to India’s performances in recent outings, the team has earned a lot of reputation in global cricket. Mithali Raj has also said that other teams do not take them lightly and come prepared to face Indian women’s team.

The Women in Blue have been fabulous in the last couple of years and have been producing excellent results. They recently qualified for the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, but unfortunately, they had to satisfy themselves with the runners up position. India also did well in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2017 and reached the final where they lost it to English ladies.

However, the world has witnessed some stars arising out of the team, and Mithali Raj believes Indian women’s cricket has come a long way.

“Teams don’t take us lightly anymore and come prepared for us,” Raj was quoted as saying by Sportstar. “Consistently beating the best sides in the world – be it Australia in the ODIs or England in the T20Is – has given us the confidence that we too are a side to beat,” Mithali Raj added.

Raj had retired from the shortest format of the game after the T20 World Cup last year in a bid to prolong her ODI career. She has revealed that this decision has motivated her to stay fit during this enforced break put forth by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“Some of us have running space while others like me have to manage within the restricted spaces indoors, so our trainers are adapting routines for us. (Coach) WV Raman is trying to be creative with our skill training regimen. It is difficult because irrespective of how much we train indoors, we need to get out onto the ground to be fully prepared,” she added.
