Veteran India batter Mithali Raj has applauded board president Sourav Ganguly for his efforts to uplift women’s cricket. The Women’s T20 Challenge is currently underway in United Arab Emirates where three teams are participating. The four-day long tournament has served as a boost for women’s cricket although it is not on a full-fledged basis.

Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana have been named captains for their respective franchises. The challenge will be played between November 4 and 9 in the UAE.  The best of Indian women’s cricket have combine with some of the leading stars from England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and New Zealand in a four-match tournament.

“It was really heartening to hear our president @SGanguly99 talk about women’s cricket going onward and upwards and how it is a priority for him and the BCCI,” Mithali Raj tweeted.

Raj is in twilight zone of her career. But she has already contributed enough of the national team in her decorated career and which will be taken as an inspiration for the next generation of cricketers.

Raj is the most capped women’s player in ODIs and still has a bit of service left to do for the national team. Raj, with 6888 runs to her name, is also the highest run scorer in Women’s ODI. She has scored these runs in her long and successful career spanning from 1999 at an average of 50.64.

She has the high score of an unbeaten 125 with seven centuries and 53 half-centuries to her name.
