In recent developments in English cricket, all-rounder Moeen Ali backed Alex Hales, and Adil Rashid for their decision skip red-ball cricket this season.

In addition to Rashid and Hales, David Topley decided to follow the same path as the England international.

The move of the English cricketers received a substantial amount of flak from the purists who reckon that Test cricket is dying.

In recent years, stalwarts such as AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni sacrificed the longest form of cricket to keep themselves fit for the limited-overs challenges.

Ali believes the move from the players will help benefit England’s performance in white ball cricket with the presence of ‘real specialists’.

It’s something a lot of players will probably do further down the line,” added Moeen Ali.

Both Alex Hales and Adil Rashid got overlooked from Test cricket. The two have been regulars on the English side since ECB decided to revamp their selection model in the aftermath of World Cup debacle of 2015.

Moeen Ali advocates skill levels of these set of players will ‘improve immensely if they exclusively focused on the one-day system’.

However, Adil Rashid suggested the move to opt out of red-ball cricket this season is not a ‘permanent thing’ and that,

“It’s for this season, to see how it goes, how it unfolds and what happens, to see what my mind says and what my heart feels.

Things haven’t been well received by the likes of Nasser Hussain who affirmed this would be a pattern in the years to come amongst modern player.

It reflects the changing face of international cricket at the moment. All of these franchises and domestic teams we have. They’re just making business decisions,” Hussain stated according to Unibet.
