England’s all-rounder Moeen Ali has been ruled out of the first One Day International against Pakistan. The off-spinner will miss the opening match of the five-match series due to a rib injury. Consequently, Joe Denly might get a nod in the playing XI in place of the all-rounder.

Denly had played an unbeaten knock of 20 runs from 12 balls in the one-off T20I against Pakistan. However, he had gone wicket-less and bowled a solitary over.

Meanwhile, Moeen Ali has been in fine form. The southpaw batsman had recently played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing Indian Premier League. The left-handed batsman had scored 220 runs in the 10 matches he had played for the Virat Kohli-led side.

Moeen Ali had left for England to join his teammates for the World Cup preparation.

Furthermore, he had scored his runs at an impressive strike rate of 165.21 and average of 27.21. Thus, Ali had scored two fifties for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Meanwhile, England had won the one-off T20I against Pakistan by seven wickets. England’s skipper Eoin Morgan had played a match-winning knock as the southpaw batsman had scored an undefeated knock of 57 runs from 29 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes.

On the other hand, England and Pakistan will take on each other on Wednesday at the Oval in the first ODI. The final ODI will be played on 19th May.

Hence, it is a good opportunity for both sides to prepare themselves for the upcoming World Cup. England will begin their World Cup campaign against South Africa at the Kennington Oval on 30th May. On the other hand, Pakistan will take on Windies in their opening match of the World Cup. Consequently, both teams will like to cover their bases ahead of the ODI showpiece.
