As Pakistan trail the current three-match T20I series against England, they have dealt with a blow as Mohammad Amir might not feature in the third and final T20 international. Mohammad Amir bowled only two overs in the second game in Manchester as a right hamstring restricted him bowling for the rest of the match. The tourists lost the clash by five wickets, failing to defend 196.

The injury not only comes at a wrong time for Pakistan but also for Mohammad Amir, who has managed only one wicket from his last five T20Is. The left-arm pacer also went wicketless in the opening match as the game resulted in abandonment after rains interfered. Amir was unlikely to even feature in the tour as he expected the birth of his second child. However, he made himself available for the rubber at the last moment.

A trusted source of the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the news, stating that he has pain in his hamstring and the medical team has him iced.

He’s feeling pain in his right hamstring, it’s been iced and they (Pakistan’s medical staff) will see him tomorrow (Monday),” the spokesperson told the media.

The team management will most likely bring in another veteran seamer, Wahab Riaz, who is also a left-arm quick. The other options in their squad are youngsters Mohammad Hasnain and Naseem Shah. Hasnain has featured in a handful of white-ball games while Shah is yet to don the coloured clothing.

Should Wahab Riaz play the third T20 international, it would be the 35-year old’s first since November 2019. The heroics from Dawid Malan and skipper Eoin Morgan enabled them to scale a mammoth chase after Tom Banton and Jonny Bairstow began briskly in pursuit of 196. It is one final chance for Pakistan to finish the tour on a high note after sustaining a loss in the three-Test series too.
