Mohammad Amir Reacts On Rohit Sharma's 'Normal Bowler' Comment

Heaping lavish praise on Rohit Sharma, Pakistan’s pace spearhead Mohammad Amir has said that the India opener’s opinion towards him might have changed after his sensational spell in the final of the Champions Trophy last month. Amir had played a crucial role in Pakistan’s stunning 180-run win over the arch-rivals in the final by dismissing India’s in-form trinity Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli cheaply. India never recovered from those early setbacks and were all out for just 159 in pursuit of Pakistan’s 339.

Mohammad Amir Reacts On Rohit Sharma's 'Normal Bowler' Comment

Amir’s red-hot spell came a little more than a year after Rohit had expressed his dismay over the hype surrounding the left-arm pacer. Rohit had made the remark after Amir bowled a similar 3-wicket spell in the 2016 Asia Cup, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane for a duck and Suresh Raina for 1 when the Men in Blue were chasing just 84.

“Stop talking about him already,” Rohit had said. “He isn’t the only bowler, Pakistan have five other bowlers who are doing well for them.”

“There is just so much hype around him, I don’t think it is right to give him too much hype after one match. He is good but he needs to prove it over and over again. Now people are comparing him to Wasim Akram and all that. He is just a normal bowler, on that given day if he is good, he is good. It is not as if he turns up and blows everyone away,” he had added.

Amir finally reacted to Rohit’s comments but offered a dead bat, saying that he doesn’t bother too much about other’s opinion. At the same time, he also said that he has immense respect for the opening batsman who has done really well for India.

“That was his opinion about me and he is entitled to that opinion,” Amir told Sky Sports. “Maybe his opinion about me has now changed.”

“But let’s get one thing clear, I would never call him an ordinary batsman. In fact, I would call him an extraordinary batsman. His record for India is superb and I respect him. His opinions about other cricketers are up to him, but with all due respect I never worry about what other cricketers have to say about me.

“It’s not my concern at all and I just concentrate on my performances and what I am doing for my team. If I worried about other people’s opinions of me that would just cause me stress and that is why I avoid it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether it’s labelling a cricketer world-class or ordinary; it is up to that individual,” he added.
