Mohammad Amir was hailed as the next big thing in Pakistan cricket when he first burst onto the scene in 2009. But his career was the derailed after he was found complicit in the 2010 match-fixing scandal alongside teammates Mohammad Asif and the then captain of the Pakistan cricket team, Salman Butt.

Mohammad Amir was then handed a five-year ban, post which he was allowed to make a comeback to the Pakistan team in 2016. However, Amir ran into a roaring controversy last year when he announced his retirement from Test match cricket at the age of 27.

Amir copped a great amount of criticism from former Pakistan cricketers who accused the left-arm bowler for ditching Pakistan cricket when it needed his services the most.

Mohammad Asif, who was also a part of that spot-fixing scandal, has now joined the bandwagon where he has criticized both Pakistan Cricket Board (for rescuing Amir’s career) and the left-arm fast bowler himself for his decision to leave Test cricket and his failure to reciprocate the favor done to him.

“I curse the PCB for how they rescued his career. But it was his obligation to help Pakistan cricket in a tough situation and he should have stayed, especially when they had helped him return,” Mohammad Asif told ESPNCricinfo.

Mohammad Asif also said that if the PCB does the same thing with him, then he will do everything in his might to rescue Pakistan in Test cricket.

“…If they (the PCB) had done the same with me, then I’d still be available to rescue Pakistan in Test cricket for the next two years. I know there are fitness standards, but I can work that out and whatever is required I can do it.

Mohammad Amir was the only one from the tainted trio that was involved in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal who was given a chance to make his comeback to international cricket. Amir made his comeback in 2016 and while his performances in white-ball cricket have been pretty decent, the left-arm bowler could not leave the impact in Test cricket which ultimately paved the way for his pre-mature retirement last year.
