Pakistani all-rounder, Mohammad Hafeez, requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to have a second look at ‘Doosra’ and reckons it should be permitted for finger-spinners. With the increase in the number of wrist-spinners and laws prohibiting the use of doosras, the art of finger spin is slowly dying in cricket.

The likes of Saeed Ajmal, Harbhajan Singh, and Sunil Narine were the masters of doosra. However, after corrections enforced on the spinners due to suspect bowling actions, their bowling prowesses have taken a dip in recent years.

Teams, therefore, are reluctant to bowl finger spinners with the likes of Adil Rashid, Shadab Khan, Kuldeep Yadav, and Imran Tahir have taken center stage.

Really happy to see leg spinners come into international cricket. But I still believe something should happen when it comes to the doosra,” mentioned the Peshawar Zalmi.

Saeed Ajmal has given us a lot of excitement as well as Saqlain Mushtaq. It is one area ICC must look into. Some extension in the rules… doosra should be a part of cricket, not taken away from it,” Hafeez stated from the sidelines of a PSL match.

This is one area that every team looks forward to. Having leg spinners in the team provides them with lots of excitement and options to get wickets,” added Mohammad Hafeez.

Leg-spinners are always fascinating when it comes to cricket, starting from Abdul Qadir when he used to bowl his googlies it was a new thing in cricket and everyone just loved that. Then the legacy continued led by Anil Kumble from India, Shane Warne from Australia, Mushtaq Ahmad from Pakistan,” elucidate the Pakistani quintessential all-rounder according to Network 18.

On Pakistan’s recent form

The Pakistan cricket team are accused of being inconsistent post their historic win in the ICC Champions Trophy in England. New Zealand whitewashed Pakistan in the ODI series at home but lost the T20I series to the men in green by 2-1.

We missed some of our bowlers due to injuries like Usman Khan Shinwari. He is a rising star and he did very well for us against Sri Lanka in UAE,” claimed the experienced campaigner in franchise cricket

Pak was also handed defeat by underdogs Sri Lanka, at their fortress at UAE in the two-match Test series. That said, Pakistan whitewashed the Lankans in the 5-match ODI series.

We are leading into a very good team, we are shaping up very well. Everyone is very clear about their role. We know we have to get momentum outside Asia. That is a goal we really want to achieve,” concluded Mohammad Hafeez.
