Former Team India cricketer Mohammad Kaif welcomed the Supreme Court’s recent verdict on the Ayodhya dispute. He was one of the only few cricketers to issue a notice on the controversial issue which threatened to divide India for decades.

In a landmark judgment, a five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court on Saturday unanimously ruled that possession of Ayodhya’s contested property will vest in a trust to be formed by the Central government and also directed that representation in the trust may be given to Nirmohi Akhara, a litigant in the case.

On the other hand, the bench presided over by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi asked the Central Government to give five-acre land to the Sunni Central Waqf Board to build a mosque. The land may be allotted by the Centre “out of the acquired land” or by the state government at a suitable place in Ayodhya.

Soon after the verdict came out, Mohammad Kaif came out on Twitter to laud the landmark judgement. He also said that the idea of India is much bigger than any ideology.

“This can happen only in India. Where a Justice Abdul Nazeer is a part of a unanimous verdict. And a KK Muhammed gives historical evidences. Idea of India is much bigger than any ideology can ever comprehend. May everyone be happy, I pray for peace, love & harmony #AYODHYAVERDICT,” Mohammad Kaif tweeted.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Kaif, who represented India in 125 One Day Internationals is currently working with the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He will look to improve the fielding standards as the franchise aim to lift their maiden trophy in the next season.
