Former Indian batsman and arguably the greatest Indian fielder of all time, Mohammad Kaif has lambasted the Wire News’ report on ‘Cast Quota’. It was eventually for spreading false allegations.

In an opinion piece written by Gaurav Bhimani and Saurav Jain, they spoke about that how the scheduled caste or the scheduled tribes have been deprived of playing for India on most of the occasions.

As per the record, it is learnt that only four out of the 290 Indian cricketers till date has been a scheduled caste or tribe. Hence, they prepared an article on that aspect.

Cricket was a rich man’s game around three decades ago. However, in the recent times, it has gone to several quarters. Players from small areas have gone on to emerge as superpowers.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the first player to represent India from Jharkhand. He went on to become one of the finest limited-overs cricketers in the next 10 years. Moreover, he has been an inspiration for cricketers across the globe.

Allegations in the Wire News were baseless, feels Mohammad Kaif

Now, the allegations levelled by the Wire News was pretty baseless. It is not always possible to search people from scheduled caste or tribe to elect the cricketers.

However, the caption of the story read, “Does India Need A Caste-Based Quota in Cricket?”

It was also one such incident when Kaif took a direct dig at them for their false allegations. It is true that not many scheduled caste or scheduled tribe players have gone on to represent the country.

However, we must keep in mind that how many cricketers from the relatively lower middle class and poor families have gone onto represent India in the recent times.

Moreover, there has been a group of players who have come from a humble background. Hence, it is a big achievement on their side.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Kaif asked the news website how many senior editors in their organization were SC or ST.

“How many prime time journalists are SC or ST. For that matter how many senior editors in your organisation are SC or ST. Sports is perhaps one field which has successfully broken barriers of caste, players play with inclusiveness but then we have such journalism to spread hatred.” Kaif wrote.
