Mohammed Shami Feels Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja Make Life Easy For Fast Bowlers

It was a perfect Test match for India, which was played at Visakhapatnam. They got every player showing their calibre in their respective fields. Right from Mayank Agarwal to Mohammed Shami everyone delivered the goods for the team whenever it was necessary. Meanwhile, the fast bowler gives a lot of credit to Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Mohammad Shami was the star of the show as he bagged five wickets in the fourth innings to bundle out South Africa for just 191 runs. With this five-wicket haul, Shami also managed to get himself into an elite list of Indian pacers to get five-wicket in the second-innings at home.

Ravichandran Ashwin has a lot of experience – Mohammed Shami

However, the fast bowler credits Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja, who makes life easy for the fast bowlers. He feels that the duo has always been at their best when it comes to Indian conditions. Shami added that Ashwin is a world-class, on whom, the team management and the skipper relies a lot to get the desired result.

Ravichandran Ashwin equalled Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan‘s world record of being the fastest to pick 350 Test wickets. Ashwin achieved the feat as he dismissed Theunis de Bruyn in the second over of the final day of the first Test. On the other hand, Jadeja also delivered when it mattered the most.

“Ashwin has a lot of Test cricket experience, and bowled very well in both the first and second innings,” Shami said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live program after the match. When you have great bowlers like Ashwin and Jadeja in the team, the fast bowlers can breathe easy and relax, knowing that they are there,” the pacer said.

Virat Kohli gives you freedom:

Further, Mohammed Shami went on to hail Virat Kohli for his captaincy skills. Shami revealed that Virat Kohli will always give enough time for the fast bowlers to settle in and knows whether the bowler is up for the challenge or not.

“Virat Kohli as a captain always hears us out and gives us the freedom to follow our strategy during the match. He has given us the freedom to take a call on whether we want to bowl 5 overs or 7 overs or more — he says ‘if you have the power, go ahead and bowl’. That’s when we take a call that we will bowl three overs but with full power… That’s the understanding we have. He trusts us, and we trust him,” Shami said.

All in all, it was a nice outing for Mohammed Shami. To have a five-wicket haul in the fourth innings as a fast bowler in India isn’t an often scenario. He would like to repeat the same heroics in the second Test as well.
