Updated - 14 Jan 2018, 10:15 PM
Mohammed Shami became the third fastest Indian bowler to pick up 100 wickets in Test format after picking up the wicket of Keshav Maharaj in the first innings of the second Test at the Supersport Park in Centurion. Shami made his Test debut in 2013 against West Indies and has been a regular in the Indian Test side since then.
The 27-year-old, Bengal fast bowler entered the elite list on the second day of the second Test when the Indian team needed a wicket as Maharaj and South African captain Faf Du Plessis looked comfortable against the Indian bowlers. Shami got the breakthrough for the Indian team by dismissing Maharaj.
Since his debut in 2013, Shami has been a regular in the Test side and is known for his ability to reverse swing. Shami is on the third spot behind World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev who achieved the feat in 25 Tests and Irfan Pathan who achieved the feat in 28 Tests. Shami reached 100 wickets in 29 Tests.
Here’s the list of fewest Test taken by Indian bowlers to reach 100 wickets.
