Bangladesh Test Captain Mominul Haque Tests Positive For COVID-19

After Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad tested positive for COVID-19, Mominul Haque has contracted the deadly pathogen too. Mominul Haque is currently Bangladesh’s Test captain, having taken the role last year during the national team’s tour of India for two Tests. Bangladesh cricket’s chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed the news of the same.

Batsman Mominul Haque is the fourth cricketer to have tested positive for COVID-19. Previously, Abu Jayed, Saif Hassan and Mashrafe Mortaza also contracted the disease; however, have managed to recover from it. A few cricketers and support staff from the U-19 camp tested positive for coronavirus as well. As per official figures, the nation has 421,921 cases of COVID-19 with 6000 fatalities.

Dr. Debashish Chowdhury told the news website Sarabangla that Mominul Haque has tested positive for COVID-19 but only has mild symptoms as of now. “Mominul is coronavirus positive with mild symptoms,”. Haque has been in Bangladesh Cricket Board since September and also been training individually since June. The Tigers were to play Sri Lanka in two Tests in October; however, the series stood postponed.

Mominul Haque’s wife tests positive as well:

The 29-year old, who learnt it on Tuesday, told ESPN Cricinfo that except for fever yesterday, he does not have symptoms. Unfortunately, his wife is reported to have tested positive too. “I don’t have a lot of symptoms except fever since the day before yesterday,”

So far, the southpaw has featured in 40 Tests, 28 ODIs, and six T20Is for Bangladesh Haque has 2860, 557, and 60 runs in Test, ODI, and T20 internationals respectively. He has not played ODI since 2018 and T20I since 2014 and is primarily picked for Test cricket only.
