MPCA requests BCCI to host IPL playoff matches after MCA's plea

The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) solicited in front of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to host one of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Playoff matches.

The request came after Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) requested BCCI to host one of the matches at Pune.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune hosted the home matches for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant franchise in the last two seasons of IPL.

However, it is not scheduled to host any matches this season with the comeback of CSK and RR.

The Holkar Stadium in Indore hosted three of Kings XI Punjab’s home games last season.

MPCA request for playoffs:

MPCA secretary Milind Kanmadikar requested BCCI acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary, and IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla, to allow some of the IPL Playoffs this season at Indore.

“We place before you our request for allotment of playoff segment matches of the forthcoming IPL season to us, which we shall stage at Holkar Stadium, Indore. Our venue has witnessed several exciting matches, international as well as domestic, attracting record-break crowd attendance at each instance,” said the letter to BCCI according to TOI.

Indore to host three league matches this season

The matches at Indore last season would be fondly remembered for Hashim Amla’s heroics against Mumbai Indians, where he smashed an unbeaten century.

Mumbai Indians later chased down the required total at ease with explosive knocks from Rana and Buttler.

“Our pitches and outfield has received accolades for its premium quality. We also have demonstrated our organising abilities whenever the opportunity of hosting big matches was given to us. The city of Indore can offer other conveniences. Such as hotels, air connectivity etc. required for such matches,” added the letter.

This time around Indore is scheduled to host three of the home matches of Kings XI Punjab franchises.

KXIP’s matches against Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, and Sunrisers Hyderabad would be hosted by Holkar Stadium.

“The three IPL matches during the previous season were extremely successful on all accounts. Us at MCA remain hopeful that the franchise (KXIP) would prefer our venue for this season as well. We sincerely expect a tremendous response in case of play-off match(es) being allotted to us. We shall be grateful to you if our above request is considered favourably,” concluded the letter.
