Days after expressing his disappointment over MS Dhoni’s batting against Afghanistan, legendary Sachin Tendulkar praised his former teammate for his knock against Bangladesh. Dhoni once again failed to hit the top gear with the bat but ended up playing a crucial knock of 35 from 33 balls. As expected, his strike-rate once again made the fans angry as they slammed him.

However, Sachin Tendulkar feels that what Dhoni did was the best option for the team. After KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma added 180 runs for the first wicket, India were looking set to post well in excess of 300. However, the middle-order once again failed to get going and India ended up on 314 for 9. At a time when the wickets were falling at regular intervals, it was Dhoni who held firm and took the score past the 300-run mark.

“For him, it is more about the team. Whatever is the need of the hour, one needs to do that and on Tuesday, he did that perfectly,” Tendulkar added.

Dhoni has been under pressure due to his strike-rate for quite some time now. Before the game against Bangladesh, he was facing criticism from all around for his knock against England and Afghanistan. Not only the fans but also cricketers questioned his intent.

India, meanwhile, beat Bangladesh by 28 runs to storm into the semifinals. They became the second team after Australia to seal their spot in the last four. The Men in Blue will now take on Sri Lanka in their final group game.
