MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings have fallen out of playoffs race in IPL 2020, having been the runners-up the last year and a burgeoning tournament history. Chennai Super Kings suffered their eighth defeat in 11 games against Mumbai Indians as the defending champions beat the yellow army comprehensively by ten wickets. Nevertheless, MS Dhoni was all praises for the fans for dishing out constructive criticism.

MS Dhoni’s captaincy has faced plenty of flak in IPL 2020 as the most consistent team in the history of the tournament meekly surrendered in more occasions than one. While the Super Kings began their campaign by beating Mumbai Indians, they ceased to maintain the consistency. The 39-year old’s form with the bat has also not been up to the mark and his selections have drawn several questions.

MS Dhoni conceded that the CSK fans have been tremendous and amongst those who understand the sport. Despite being disappointed with the team’s results in the current edition, several people have stuck by them. And the 39-year old believes those are the real fans. He understands that disappointment is inevitable; however, Dhoni mentioned that constructive criticism matters.

Well the CSK fans have been great.I always say they are amongst the fan who understand their cricket. They are slightly different in that. Also the fact when you go through a rough patch, the fans sticking to you are true fans. Yes its not like they will not be disappointed, it’s not like they won’t criticise you but it’s constructive criticism that really matters,” Dhoni stated as quoted by India Today.

The former Indian captain feels blessed to have such fans rallying behind them. And he thoroughly understands that people want to see the Super Kings on the top; however, the desired result is not always guaranteed and certain things do not always their way. Chennai Super Kings will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in Dubai on Sunday.

I feel we are blessed to we have the kind of fans which we really want to have. Yes, they want us to be at top throughout, yes they want us to keep doing well but when you are competing against the the top 7-8 teams it’s not always guaranteed thing that you will always win or always do well. At times you are not at your best, at times the conditions are not favouring you,” he added.
