MS Dhoni had begun preparations for IPL 2020 in a month advance. However, the novel coronavirus pandemic situation, disrupted the scenes with the IPL 2020 now set to get underway in September in UAE. His former CSK teammate Sam Billings, now playing for England against Ireland in the ODIs, said that Dhoni would be keen to get a bat in the lucrative tournament.
All eyes will be on Dhoni as he will be making a comeback in competitive cricket after 2019 World Cup. At the quadrennial he had come under scrutiny for his poor strike rate. However, this will be an opportunity for the CSK captain to hit back the purple patch. Billings backed his former captain and said there is no one who knows the game better than Dhoni himself.
“I think that’s the benefit of experience. Obviously we have all had a layoff with this (pandemic) and I also had my injury last year. But for me, I think that’s the benefit of franchise tournaments that you, as an individual have to get ready, whether it’s a week or maybe two weeks, very short notice you have to prepare for a tournament that’s upcoming.
“With experience, you get to know what you need as an individual and there’s no better person than MS himself who knows his game.
“He will absolutely be raring to go and I think, like anything in that role, you get better with age and experience does really help,” Sam Billings told Cricbuzz.
Dhoni made a big name for himself by making the country proud with his achievements after coming from the cricketing backwaters of Ranchi. He has achieved immense success as a player and also grew up to be one of the most successful captains and achieved almost everything the ICC tournaments had to offer.
All the success has made him one of the most influential person on the cricketing circuit but he was not the same when he was first introduced to the national team. Besides that, MS Dhoni has also been the go-to man for his teammates whenever he is on the field.
