For Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni will always remain the captain on the cricket field. The senior batsman feels that his former India skipper will continue to be the cricketing brain on the field in the upcoming World Cup. Raina said that while Kohli will be the captain on the paper, Dhoni will be the one laying down and executing the plans.

Dhoni stepped down from captaincy at the start of 2017. He, however, has continued to contribute in team’s success by giving his invaluable tips. Time and again, Kohli has been seen approaching Dhoni for suggestions and the former has also acknowledged the latter’s contributions on a number of times.

“On paper he’s not the captain. On the ground he’s the captain for Virat I think,” Raina told PTI. His role is still the same. He communicates with the bowlers from behind the stumps, coordinates the field placements.

“He’s the captain of the captains. Virat feels confident when Dhoni is behind the stumps. He has always acknowledged that,” added Suresh Raina.

Raina, who has not played for India since the tour of England last year, further said that this would be a big World Cup for Kohli. The left-handed batsman, who was a member of the 2011 World Cup winning team led by Dhoni, also said that the current side is the ‘best team to win the World Cup’.

“He is a confident player, captain and a team player. It’s a very big World Cup for him. He knows his role well. He needs to give confidence to his players. Everything looks in our favour. The intent has to be positive. This is the best team to win the World Cup,” Suresh Raina said.
