Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai has revealed the idea of introducing a new A+ Contract was of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Meanwhile, BCCI has announced a new contract system and compensation structure for the players.

As per the new structure, there are four categories in Indian Men’s team – Grade A+, Grade A, Grade B and Grade C. The apex body introduced a new Grade A+ category.

The idea came from Dhoni and Virat:

Vinod Rai in a chat with ESPNcricinfo revealed the idea of a new Grade A+ came from Kohli and Dhoni.

This suggestion originated from Virat and MS in the discussions,” he said. “Their logic was this category would have only players featuring in all three formats, players who are in the top-10 rankings,” Rai added.

They wanted a category of pure excellence where you perform, and you are rewarded. And hence the players would not occupy a permanent slot in this category because if you don’t perform, then you slip down the order,” he added further.

Meanwhile, it comes as a surprise, as Dhoni himself missed out on the Grade A+ contract.

However, this isn’t the first time a cricketer has come out about the pay cut issue. Previously, Rahul Dravid had also voiced his opinion regarding the same.

BCCI creates Fund:

Meanwhile, BCCI has created a fund to which BCCI will contribute a hefty sum annually.

The CoA recognizes that the actual income of the BCCI fluctuates on an annual basis depending on the number of home matches Team India (Senior Men) plays. Hence, to insulate the player compensation, the CoA has sanctioned the creation of a ‘Players Revenue/Compensation Equalisation Fund’ (PR/CEF) to which the BCCI will contribute approximately Rs 125 crore per annum from its surplus,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, pacer Mohammed Shami did not get a contract due an FIR lodged against him. However, Shami proves himself innocent; he will get his share.

Also, the Indian women’s team found themselves divided into three Grades. The players in category A will receive Rs 50 lakh, while category B and C will receive Rs 30 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, respectively.
