Sunday (September 17) saw a happy and a much-awaited reunion between Chennai and one of its most beloved cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The former India captain led Chennai Super Kings for eight very successful years, helping the franchise win two IPL titles, now-scrapped T20 Champions League titles in addition to countless memorable victories.

Not surprising then when he walked into bat in the first One-Day International against  Australia, the crowd gave him a rousing reception even though the Men in Blue were reeling at 64 for 4 with the likes of the Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma already back in the pavilion. But despite the team being in such trouble, the knowledgeable Chennai crowd did not hesitate in giving its favourite cricketer a heartwarming reception.

And the Twitter handle of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came up with the perfect name for Dhoni as they wrote:” The King returns to Chennai #TeamIndia

The fans, meanwhile, got what they were hoping for as Dhoni bailed the team out from trouble with yet another outstanding knock. The Men in Blue were reeling at 87 for 5 when Hardik Pandya joined a relatively new MS Dhoni on the crease. The duo added 118 runs for the sixth wicket before Pandya was dismissed after playing a stroke-filled knock of 83 runs.

Dhoni then took responsibility from there on and scored 78 from 89 to help India finish on a challenging total of 283 for 7 in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, Australia were restricted to 137 for 9 in the rain-curtailed tie after being given a revised total of 164 in 21 overs.
