MS Dhoni To Do Guard Duties In Kashmir From July 31

Former India skipper MS Dhoni who skipper international cricket to join the army will join his battalion in Jammu and Kashmir at the end of the month and carry out duties with the troops, official sources revealed on Thursday. Meanwhile, Dhoni holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA battalion), awarded to him in 2011.

Amidst his retirement speculations, MS Dhoni decided to train with the paramilitary troops for the next two months after making himself unavailable for the West Indies tour. The Jharkhand-born cricketer will be with the 106 Territorial Army battalion (Para) from July 31 to August 15 and will be taking on the duties of patrolling, guard and post his duties he will be staying with the troops. Dhoni has also completed parachute training jumps from Indian Army aircraft at the Agra training camp in 2015.

A senior official revealed the news that after the green signal from the Army headquarters, MS Dhoni will join the duties of patrolling and guarding from July 31.

“As requested by the officer and approved by the Army headquarters, he will be taking on the duties of patrolling, guard and post duty and would be staying with troops,” said a senior official.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has had a poor outing in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2019. He has struggled to put runs on the scoreboard at a good pace expected out of him. Soon after India’s premature exit from the World Cup, speculations were on an all-time high about his retirement. However, as per popular perception, Dhoni, who is in the twilight of his career will be with the team till the World T20 next year and help young Rishabh Pant groom before bidding farewell to the game.
