Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly believes MS Dhoni’s return to form on Down Under tour was the biggest positive for the side. MS Dhoni wasn’t at his best in 2018 but he was able to turn the tables in 2019. Dhoni scored 193 runs in the three-match ODI series against Australia. In fact, he scored three consecutive fifties in the series and he was also adjudged the Man of the series.
Furthermore, Dhoni was able to rotate the strike with aplomb, which was his Achilles Heel in 2018. It is crucial for the Indian side that Dhoni bats at the top of his game before the ICC World Cup 2019. The veteran batsman has all the experience under his belt and he is going to hold the key in the ODI showpiece.
Dhoni is back in form.
“The biggest positive for India was MS Dhoni because his performance from the past one year didn’t show he will go to the World Cup. He may be a bit bad today but overall he has improved a lot in the Australia and New Zealand series. So, this is the biggest positive for India,” Ganguly said in IndiaTV’s show Cricket Ki Baat.
Dhoni has done a great job for the Indian side and he is going to be instrumental in the success of the Indian side in the World Cup. Thus, his return to form is a big boost for the side.
On the other hand, Sourav Ganguly believes Vijay Shankar will not get a chance in the upcoming World Cup despite performing well against New Zealand.
The Prince of Kolkata feels Mohammad Shami who the Man of the series in the ODI series against the Kiwis, was the biggest positive against New Zealand. Shami has filled in the shoes of the third pacer and he is going to hold the key.
“Vijay Shankar improved his batting and Rishabh Pant played well too but I don’t think Shankar will go to the World Cup. Shami’s bowling in the ODI was the biggest positive,” said Ganguly.
India will now lock horns with Australia in two T20Is and five One Day Internationals in the home conditions. This would be India’s last International series before the World Cup which will help them in confirming their squad for the World Cup.
The first T20I against Australia will take place on February 24.
