Windies legend Brian Lara feels India needs the experience of veteran MS Dhoni for another seven or eight months till the 2019 World Cup. Meanwhile, MS is not at his peak, as he is unable to score runs for India consistently. However, he has been sensational with his reflexes behind the stumps. Dhoni has so far scored 27 runs from the three ODI matches against the Windies.

Dhoni’s experience valuable for India – Lara

Moreover, Brian Lara feels MS Dhoni has been a true soldier for Indian cricket, and he knows what to do. The legendary batsman feels MS is not getting any younger and to expect him to repeat what he had done in the past would not be fair.

“His experience is needed may be for the seven or eight months till the World Cup. He has been a true soldier for Indian cricket. He knows what to do. Today, he might get some upgradation of getting out. Everyone expected him to get India home roughly when it was 10 or 15 overs left to bowl.” Brian Lara said.

Furthermore, India has a settled top three with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli milking the majority of runs. However, India is struggling with their middle order. With Kohli fixing Rayudu’ spot at number four before the series, Lara feels Pant and Dhoni should follow him at 5 and 6.

However, Brian Lara thinks if the BCCI can get the selection thing sorted, India would be a team to beat in the mega event in England.

“You have beautiful top three but a little bit of inexperience, the guys dont know how to do it. Rayudu and Pant hold very important positions for Indian batting at number 4 and number 5. Dhoni at number 6, I believe that his position. I just believe you know the few things India need to think about when picking the right team to produce victories consistently.” Brian Lara added.
