Chief selector, MSK Prasad has lauded Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay as the best cricketers in the Indian side, and the selectors should keep an eye on them for the upcoming tour.

England thumped India 4-1 in Tests

However, the visitors played much better than the scoreline suggested. While speaking to the Times of India, chief selector, MSK Prasad said it was a case of not capitalising on the moments for the Indian team. Moreover, the batting needs to back the splendid display of the Indian bowlers in the future.

Furthermore, even though Ravichandran Ashwin failed to shine after the Edgbaston Test, MSK believes the off-spinner is India’s best bet and one of the best in world cricket at present.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin has been panned by critics for his poor show in Southampton. Prasad feels Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav are three top choices in the longest version of the game.

“I have no doubt in the abilities of Ashwin and Jadeja. Kuldeep also is in pipeline and had a good time with India A team against Australia A. I am sure all of them can deliver in any conditions,” Prasad asserted.

Moreover, Indian selection panel led by MSK Prasad axed Murali Vijay for the last two Tests against England. Vijay got a chance in the XI in first two Tests. However, he failed to create the impact which further resulted in his axing from the XI in the third Test.

However, the expectations on Murali Vijay were high when he came into the England tour. He made a brilliant ton against Afghanistan back in June at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. His scores on away tours in this calendar year are not promising, as he just scored one forty-plus total in the ten innings, he played in South Africa and England.

Meanwhile, MSK Prasad said Murali Vijay after getting dropped from the Test team has now gone back to play County cricket. He already got a fifty and hundred on debut for Essex.

“I always believe that whenever a player is not among runs he needs to go back to first-class cricket to regain his form be it Ranji Trophy or a County stint,” MSK Prasad said.
