Dinesh Karthik has been facing the heat for refusing to take a single in the final over of the third T20I between India and New Zealand on Sunday. India lost the thrilling game by four runs and the majority feels that had Karthik scampered for a single, the result would have been different.

Chasing an improbable 213, India needed 16 runs off the final over with Dinesh Karthik on the strike facing  Tim Southee. Giving Karthik company was Krunal Pandya.  Karthik picked a double off the first delivery before failing to score off the second. And what followed thereafter left many perplexed. In a desperate attempt to hit a boundary, Karthik went for the big shot on the third delivery but he failed to clear get the desired result.

He hit a grounded shot at long on. On the other end, Krunal took off from the non-striker’s end for a single as soon as Karthik hit the shot. But to Krunal and other’s utter surprise,  Dinesh Karthik refused to take the single. By the time Krunal realised it he was already standing beside Karthik. But before the fielder could throw the ball at the bowler, Krunal managed to get inside his crease. As expected, he expressed his displeasure over the rejection and the reason was obvious. Karthik’s decision was a baffling one as his partner had already hit 25 off just 12 balls with the help of two fours and as many sixes. Dinesh Karthik went on to finish the game with a six but India fell short by four runs, finishing on 208 for 6.

Ever since the game finished, Karthik has been receiving criticism from all around for his decision with fans and pundits giving their opinions on the matter.

And now, Mumbai Indians have taken a cheeky dig at Karthik. The official Twitter handle of the franchise pointed out Krunal’s batting performance and made it clear that the allrounder faced just one ball in the final over despite being in good touch.

” @krunalpandya24 26 not-out from 13 balls and got to face only 1 ball in the final over. ??‍♂? Hard luck, KP! ?,” wrote Mumbai Indians.
