Mumbai Indians Grab New York Franchise in Major League Cricket, Aim To Become Global Brand Of Entertaining Cricket

Mumbai Indians franchise bought the New York franchise in Major League Cricket. Major League Cricket, a franchise T20 league in the United States, will witness its maiden season in July. The MI New York team will be one of the teams that will battle in the tournament.

With the capture of the New York franchise, Mumbai Indians now have five teams under them in five different T20 leagues. They are Mumbai Indians (IPL), Mumbai Indians Women (WPL), MI Cape Town (SA20), MI Emirates (ILT20), and MI New York (MLC).

Mumbai Indians Grab New York Franchise in Major League Cricket

After acquiring the New York franchise in Major League Cricket, Mumbai Indians released an official statement. They said that the MI New York team will compete with other franchises in the maiden edition of MLC.

“The team will participate in the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket (MLC) subject to completion of customary due diligence; negotiation, and execution of definitive binding agreements, and receipt of required corporate, regulatory and third-party approvals and compliances,” a press release stated.

Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani told PTI that they aim to establish MI as a global brand of entertaining cricket.

“I am thrilled to welcome our New York franchise to the growing MI Family! With our entry into the first cricket league in the US, I hope we are able to establish Mumbai Indians as a global brand of fearless and entertaining cricket! This is another new beginning for MI and I look forward to the exciting journey ahead,” Nita Ambani said.

The first edition of Major League Cricket will be played from July 23 to July 30. Other than MI New York, five other teams in the tournament are Team Texas, Los Angeles Knight Riders, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, and Washington Freedom. Recently, the player draft of the tournament took place.
