Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018: Mumbai Replace Shardul Thakur With Sagar Trivedi

Mumbai have replaced Shardul Thakur with Sagar Trivedi in their squad for the Super League of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2017-18. Trivedi is a right-arm medium pacer who has played a total of four List A matches and five T20s. He has also been part of IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals in the past.

Shardul, along with Navdeep Saini, has been called to South Africa ahead of the third Test to bowl to Indian players in nets. While Shardul will continue to be there for the ODI series, Navdeep might return soon. Though if the Indian team management is impressed with him, he might have a long stay in South Africa.

Mumbai and Delhi – who both have qualified for the Super League – will miss the services of their key players.

Meanwhile, Mumbai have been bolstered by the availability of Shreyas Iyer, who will be playing first two games for his side. He missed the league stage of the tournament due to a hamstring injury and was in NCA working on his fitness.

Surprisingly, Karnataka haven’t named Manish Pandey in the team, who just like Iyer was available for them for the first two games. India ODI players will be flying to South Africa on January 24, and till then, they are available to take part in the T20 league.

Talking of the Test team in South Africa, they will play the third and the final Test from January 24 to 28 in Johannesburg. The visitors have already lost the Test series by facing a defeat in the first two Test matches and them continuing this record seems to be a likely result; due to the failure of batsmen to chase the total in both the Test matches.

Ater the conclusion of the Test series, both the teams will be playing a six-match ODI series followed by three-match T20I series as well. Selectors have already announced the ODI squad whereas they are yet to name the T20I squad.

The Indian team for the T20I series is expected to be named after the conclusion of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The selectors are highly unlikely to send a new face to South Africa.
