Bangladesh wicketkeeper, Mushfiqur Rahim has pulled out of the 2020 IPL Auction. The much-awaited auction will take place on 19 December in Kolkata. A total of 971 players — 713 Indian and 258 overseas cricketers — have registered for the auction ahead of the next season. 215 capped players, 754 uncapped and a couple of players from associate nations — USA and The Netherlands will aim to fill up the available 73 spots.

The auction will not be a massive affair, considering teams will overhaul their squads once again ahead of the mega auction in 2021. The upcoming auction will be all about the teams adding finishing touches to their existing squads. Last month, all the eight franchises had released the names of their retained and released players.

Mushfiqur Rahim not in contention:

Mushfiqur Rahim, nonetheless, will not be available in the auction for the franchises. The Bangladesh star could have drawn big bids in auction. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been one of the batting mainstays of Bangladesh for years now. He has scored runs all around the world and recently impressed in India too.

Last month, he scored an unbeaten fifty in the Delhi T20I, helping Bangladesh register their first-ever T20I win over India. He was also Bangladesh’s only standout performer in an otherwise dismal Test series. While Bangladesh lost both the games by innings, Mushfiqur made his presence felt by scoring a couple of fifties.

Those performances must have drawn the attention of all the franchises. However, the veteran has decided not to put forth his name for the auction, meaning that the wicket-keeper wouldn’t go under the hammer. Mushfiqur is yet to play in the lucrative league. With Mushfiqur out, only six Bangladesh cricketers would be a part of the auction. The likes of Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal and Taskin Ahmed will be in the auction.
