Mustafizur Rahman Finally Breaks His Silence After Being Denied NOC By BCB To Play In IPL 2020

Bangladesh star Mustafizur Rahman has finally broken his silence after being denied No-Objection Certificate by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to play in IPL 2020.

According to media reports earlier this month, both Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) had approached Mustafizur Rahman after both the franchises lost one pacer from their respective squad. While KKR lost the services of Harry Gurney, MI lost Lasith Malinga.

However, BCB decided against giving their injury-prone pacer the permission to play in the cash-rich league. Later, Mumbai roped in Australia’s James Pattinson to replace Malinga while KKR signed up USA’s Ali Khan. The reason behind BCB refusing to give the left-arm pacer the go ahead was the tour of Sri Lanka which was recently postponed.

‘Whatever happens, happens for the best’

While Mustafizur Rahman would have liked to play in the IPL, he is not too disappointed with BCB’s decision. The left-arm pacer said he would have got the permission if the board knew about the postponement of the Sri Lanka tour. At the same time, he also rued losing the opportunity to earn around BDT 1 crore.

“It would have been great to play the Test series. Sri Lanka’s proposal to have us quarantined for 14 days didn’t seem possible for us,” Mustafizur Rahman was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

”You can’t sit in your room before such an important series, no matter how hard you train. BCB tried, but the 14-day quarantine is their law. I think we should respect it.

“If the BCB knew that the Sri Lanka series would be postponed, they would have given me the NoC for IPL. But whatever happens, happens for the best. I may have earned BDT 1 crore had I played the IPL,” he added.

The Bangladesh star is now new to playing in the IPL. He has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and MI in the IPL. In his first season in 2016, he helped Sunrisers win the IPL title by picking up an impressive 16 wickets. In 2017, he played just one game before being signed up by Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2018 season. He managed to pick up just seven wickets in seven games and was released after the season ended.
