Calling Jos Buttler a ‘freak’, former England captain Nasser Hussain has said the wicketkeeper-batsman is already one of the greatest one-day players of all time. Hussain’s comment came after Buttler’s herculean knock against Pakistan in the second ODI at The Ageas Bowl. The right-handed batsman was in devastating form, scoring 110 runs from a mere 55 balls.

The breathtaking knock contained six fours and as many as nine maximums as Buttler took the Pakistani attack to the cleaners. He reached his fifty off just 50 balls to record England’s second-fastest ton in ODI cricket. Eoin Morgan and Jason Roy scored fifties too as the hosts set Pakistan 374 for victory in Southampton.

Impressed with Buttler’s latest demolition job, Hussain said the England star is up there with ‘three or four greatest white-ball players of all time’. In fact, the former England international went on to compare his compatriot with the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni and Viv Richards for his flamboyance with the bat.

“He is a freak. Sometimes you don’t realise what you’ve got, because it’s right in front of you. You travel the world and you talk to people about Jos Buttler, and they rave about this lad. I don’t like massive comments, but he’d have to be up there with the three or four greatest white-ball players of all time,” Hussain told Sky Sports.

“You’re talking Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni, Viv Richards. I have to put Buttler in that category. If you do it once, it’s a freak, but if you do it again and again and again; suddenly our very own Jos Buttler from Taunton is up among the greatest white-ball players to ever play the game,” he added. “Sometimes we don’t build up our own cricketers enough. This bloke is so special, it’s untrue.”

Talking about the game, England survived a massive scare from Pakistan to win the game by just 12 runs. Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman scored a superb century to lead the visitors’ charge but they eventually ended up on 361 for 7.
