Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has lavished praise on Kane Williamson for his attitude after the final of 2019 World Cup. Kane Williamson missed the chance to become first New Zealand captain to guide his country to World Cup glory as England crushed the Black Caps’ dream.

The Kiwis came up with a spirited show but their efforts were undone by the now-scrapped boundary count back rule. The final ended in a tie after the match ended with both teams scoring 241 runs, followed by the first Super Over in an ODI. And the super over could not separate the two teams either as both of them finished with 15 runs.

England were then adjudged the winner for hitting more number of boundaries. But just a couple of months after the World Cup final, the ICC scrapped the rule after facing criticism from all around. And while the defeat was a tough pill to swallow for Kane Williamson and his team, the star man made sure to behave in an exemplary manner.

On the first anniversary of the thrilling match, Hussain recalled how the New Zealand skipper accepted the defeat humbly. Hussain was speaking at an ICC podcast titled ‘CWC Rewind’ with Ian Bishop and Eoin Morgan and it was then that the former England skipper opened up about his admiration for the New Zealand captain.

“To be fair, there was no animosity between both England and New Zealand. We know Kane Williamson and his team were brilliant in their reaction after the 2019 World Cup final ended,” Hussain said during the interaction.

“He (Williamson) did the press that evening and he was so humble in defeat, all the press gave him a standing ovation, Williamson could have complained about so many things, I have not seen anyone complain about that decision. A team ends up as a mirror image of their captain, New Zealand is a mirror image of their skipper Williamson,” he added.
