Nasser Hussain, the former England captain-turned commentator, has hailed Virat Kohli’s bloodymindedness and his relentless pursuit towards winning games on a cricket field as one of his biggest strengths.

Nasser Hussian recently appeared on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’ where he was asked to compare the demeanors of Virat Kohli with former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Nasser Hussain reckons that Kohli can never be the ‘cool iceman’ like MS Dhoni since he the only thing he is concerned about is winning games and that is evident even when he is playing football with his fellow mates.

“First thing I’d say is he’s his own man. It’s very easy to come after MS Dhoni and say ‘I’ve got to be like MS Dhoni’, calm, calculated finisher, cool and iceman’. Virat Kohli could never be the cool iceman. Virat Kohli wears his heart on his sleeve,” Nasser Hussain said on ‘Cricket Connected’.

In fact, Nasser Hussain reckoned that Kohli’s bloody-mindedness is one of the prime reasons why he is such a master of successful run-chases. Hussain said that if he has to pick one batsman to nail a run-chase in white-ball cricket, he’ll pick Virat Kohli on any given day.

“If you watch Virat Kohli play football in the morning, I worry about some of his own players because he’s so keen to win, he could do a double-footed tackle at waist height to be honest because he just wants to win and that’s why in a run-chase in white-ball cricket if you ask me to name one player I’d want in a run-chase, it will be Kohli because all he sees is a winning target and that’s all he is interested in,” Nasser Hussain added.

Virat Kohli is a master of run-chases. Out of the 43 hundred that he has scored in One-day International cricket, 22 of those have come in successful run-chases.

In 89 such games, the current Indian captain has racked up 5388 runs at an average of 96.21 with the help of 22 half-centuries and as many three-figure scores.
