Nepal sensation Sandeep Lamichhane has paid a glowing tribute to Inzamam-ul-Haq after the latter stepped down as Pakistan’s chief selector. Inzamam, on Wednesday, announced that he would no longer be the chief selector of the team after July 30. The former Pakistan captain was appointed in 2016.

The writing had been on the wall during the course of Pakistan’s roller-coaster World Cup 2019 campaign. The tournament was marred with reports of rift inside the dressing room. Pakistan’s poor performance in the tournament did not help Inzamam’s cause either. Pakistan did manage to pull back things towards the end but still failed to progress ahead of the group stage.

“I think it is time to step down, I will complete my term that ends on July 30,” said Inzamam.

“When I returned [from United Kingdom], I told the Pakistan Cricket Board [PCB] that I did not want to continue with my position. I joined in 2016 and have spent a good time here. Now, I have decided that new people should come, with new thinking and ideas. I thank the PCB and the team who respected my choices,” he added.

During Inzamam’s tenure, Pakistan won the Champions Trophy 2017. But barring that, they have not made much progress. Inzamam was also accused of nepotism after picking nephew Imam-ul-Haq although the latter has totally justified the selection.

And as Inzamam gears up to leave his job, Sandeep Lamichhane has paid a rich tribute to him. The Delhi Capitals star took to Twitter to recall an incident involving Inzamam as he wrote”

“I met @Inzamam08 for the first time during the #PSL2019 with my brother @TalhaAisham. As I approached him, he came out of his car, hugged me & asked about my family, cricket and Nepal. A true legend who showed love and respect to a kid. #ThankYouInzamam #RiseAndRise #Legend”
