Virat Kohli will be raring to go in the Christchurch Test after a rare failure in Wellington. Kohli, the India captain, was sent packing for the paltry scores of 2 and 19 in the first Test and the Kiwis’ are ready to keep the India captain silent in the final match, starting Friday.

Kohli has been juggling between the top two Test rankings with Australia batsman Steve Smith for quite some now. Tom Latham, New Zealand’s wicket-keeper batsman, believes there a reason he is right there and the hosts will be ready to eradicate the Kohli threat once he walks to bat.

“When Virat comes out to bat we will be ready. He is a quality player and there is a reason why he is up around that No.1 rank for such a period of time,” Latham said at the pre-match press conference on Thursday.

In Wellington, New Zealand made the most of their home conditions, with India batsmen failing to have a go. The hosts will again look to capitalize on the conditions, especially against premier India batsman Kohli.

Latham, at the press conference, said if the wicket possibly produces sideway movements New Zealand will make the most of it against the India captain.

“He has done it for long time and done it in all conditions. If the surface is conducive to sideways movement we will try and exploit that,” Latham added.

The Wellington Test loss was the first for India in the World Test Championship. Before that, India had clinched victory in seven consecutive Tests to top the World Test Championship.

However, with the two-match Test series against New Zealand on the line, India will look to head into the match with their best foot forward.
