New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first against India in the second T20I at the Eden Park, Auckland.

Here is what the captains said:

Kane Williamson:

“We are going to bat. Usually a good batting surface here. It’s always a great opportunity to play against India. Same team for us today”

Rohit Sharma:

“We were looking to bowl first anyway. I know we lost the last game, but chasing has been our strength. We have spoken about what we need to do with bat and ball. Hopefully we can get a win today. We just need to do the right things and do them consistently. We discussed what went wrong in the last game. Hopefully we won’t repeat them. We are playing the same team.”

Preview:

High-flying India were well beaten with both bat and ball in the series-opener as their quest of registering their first-ever T20I in New Zealand was further delayed.  The Indian bowlers were hit all around the part with Hardik Pandya the most expensive of the lot. Yuzvendra Chahal, who returned 1/35, was the most economical, but despite his best efforts, New Zealand posted a huge 219 for 6 with Tim Seifert’s 84 being the top-score.

Just like the ball, Team India flopped with the bat too. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Vijay Shankar and Krunal Pandya got the stars but failed to capitalise.  MS Dhoni rallied, even as wickets fell at the other end, to score a 31-ball 39 but India were eventually all out for just 139 to suffer their biggest defeat in T20Is in terms of run.

With history and form against them, India now face a herculean task to save the game. New Zealand, on the hand, will be looking to make the most of their form and avenge their loss in the ODIs.
